"Beautiful Things"
by Benson Boone

Lyrics & Christian Reflection

For a while there, it was rough
But lately, I've been doin' better
Than the last four cold Decembers I recall
And I see my family every month
I found a girl my parents love
She'll come and stay the night, and I think I might have it all
And I thank God every day
For the girl He sent my way
But I know the things He gives me, He can take away
And I hold you every night
And that's a feeling I wanna get used to
But there's no man as terrified as the man who stands to lose you

Oh, I hope I don't lose you
Mm, Please stay
I want you, I need you, oh God
Don't take
These beautiful things that I've got
Please stay
I want you, I need you, oh God
Don't take
These beautiful things that I've got
Oh, ooh
Please don't take

I found my mind, I'm feelin' sane
It's been a while, but I'm finding my faith
If everything's good and it's great
Why do I sit and wait 'til it's gone?
Oh, I'll tell ya, I know I've got enough
I've got peace and I've got love
But I'm up at night thinkin' I just might lose it all

Please stay
I want you, I need you, oh God
Don't take
These beautiful things that I've got
Oh, ooh
Please stay
I want you, I need you, oh God
I need
These beautiful things that I've got

Why This Song Connects with Christians:

Is "Beautiful Things" by Benson Boone a Christian song?

While Beautiful Things isn't a traditional worship song, it expresses a heartfelt prayer that connects with many Christians. The line "Oh God, don’t take these beautiful things that I’ve got" echoes the cries of those who are desperate to hold on to the blessings they've been given—family, health, peace—and are aware of how quickly they can be lost.  The fact that the singer directs this plea to God reflects an awareness that these gifts ultimately come from Him.

In Beautiful Things, lines like "It’s been a while but I’m finding my faith" suggest a rekindling of spiritual connection. This aligns with the song’s message of seeking strength and comfort beyond oneself. It reflects the kind of personal revival and honest conversation with God that many believers experience in seasons of uncertainty or grief.

The song captures the vulnerability of life and the desire to hold on to what matters most. Boone’s emotional delivery and direct appeal to God make this song feel like a modern psalm - honest and full of longing. For people of faith, Beautiful Things becomes more than just a pop song. It’s a reminder that it’s okay to cry out to God, to ask for help, and to admit how much we depend on Him. A verse that relates: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17 NIV). This verse pairs naturally with the theme of the song. It reminds us that the "beautiful things" we cherish ultimately come from God, who is the giver and sustainer of all good gifts. For guidance on how to connect with God through prayer and trust Him more deeply, see our resource Does God Answer Prayers?
