Colton Dixon Biography

Michael Colton Dixon, born October 19, 1991 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is an American singer-songwriter known for his contributions to the Christian music genre. He gained national attention as a finalist on the eleventh season of American Idol in 2012, finishing in seventh place.

Dixon first auditioned for American Idol in its tenth season alongside his sister Schyler but did not advance to the Top 24. He returned the following season, initially to support his sister, but ended up auditioning himself after the judges encouraged him to do so. He performed David Cook's "Permanent," earning a golden ticket. Despite Schyler's early elimination, Dixon advanced to the Top 13, propelled by his rendition of Paramore's "Decode."

Following his success on American Idol, Dixon signed with Sparrow Records and released his debut album, A Messenger, in 2013. The album topped the Billboard Christian Albums chart and reached number 15 on the Billboard Top 200. His subsequent album, Anchor (2014), also topped the Christian chart, driven by the single "More of You."

Dixon continued to expand his profile with tours alongside artists like TobyMac, Third Day, and Casting Crowns. In 2015, he released The Calm Before the Storm, a collection combining his acoustic EP Calm and the remix EP Storm. His third studio album, Identity, released in 2017, again secured the number one spot on the Christian Albums chart.

In 2020, Dixon transitioned to Atlantic Records and collaborated with producers such as Robopop and Busbee for his self-titled EP, Colton Dixon. His single "Build a Boat," released in 2022, topped multiple CCM charts and featured a duet with country singer Gabby Barrett. The song, along with "My Light," was included in his 2023 EP, Canvas.

Dixon's career is characterized by his ability to blend rock, electro-pop, and Christian music, establishing him as a notable figure in contemporary Christian music. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
