Natalie Grant Biography
Who is Natalie Grant?
Natalie Grant (born December 21, 1971, in Seattle, Washington) is an American contemporary Christian singer, songwriter, author, and speaker. Widely regarded as one of Christian music's most accomplished vocalists, she is known for her powerful voice, heartfelt ballads, and songs centered on faith, hope, and perseverance. Over a career spanning more than 25 years, Grant has earned nine Grammy Award nominations and five GMA Dove Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, including four consecutive honors from 2006 through 2009 and another in 2012.
Raised in Seattle, Grant attended Northwest University before pursuing music full time. She moved to Nashville in the 1990s and signed with Benson Records, releasing her self-titled debut album in 1999. Her breakthrough came with albums such as Deeper Life (2003) and Awaken (2005), which produced several hit singles and established her as one of Christian radio's leading female artists.
Among her best-known songs are "Held," "In Better Hands," "Your Great Name," "Alive," "Hurricane," "King of the World," "Clean," and "Even Louder." "Held," inspired by the tragic loss experienced by friends of songwriter Christa Wells, became one of Grant's signature songs for its honest portrayal of grief and God's faithfulness during suffering.
Grant has released eleven studio albums, including No Stranger (2020), which became the highest-charting debut of her career on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. In 2023 she released Seasons, an album celebrating God's faithfulness through every stage of life, featuring collaborations with artists including CeCe Winans, Cory Asbury, and Mary Mary.
Beyond music, Grant is a passionate advocate against human trafficking. In 2005 she founded The Home Foundation, later renamed Abolition International, to raise awareness and support survivors of modern slavery. In 2014, the organization merged with the UK-based Hope for Justice, expanding its global efforts to combat human trafficking.
Natalie Grant lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband, award-winning producer and songwriter Bernie Herms, and their three daughters. She is also the author of several books, including The Real Me, in which she openly shares her journey to overcoming bulimia through her faith. Grant continues to tour extensively, release new music, and minister through concerts, conferences, and speaking engagements.
