Sarah Masen Biography

Sarah Masen (born January 12, 1975) is a singer/songwriter originally from the Detroit, Michigan suburb of Dearborn. Over the years, she has become a respected figure in the folk-pop and Christian music scenes. She now lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband, author David Dark, and their three children.

Sarah began her music career as the singer for the acoustic folk-pop band The Art Institute, with which she released the album The Holding on TAI Records. Her self-titled debut album in 1996 brought her widespread attention, especially with the breakout single "All Fall Down," which was featured on the popular TV show Party of Five. Initially signed to Charlie Peacock's re:think label and subsequently to Word, she is now independent.

While subsequent albums didn't receive the same level of mainstream attention, they were well-received by critics. In 2007, Sarah independently released three EPs featuring 15 new songs that highlighted her continued growth as an artist. She has also collaborated as a songwriter with artists like Béla Fleck, Julie Lee, and Sam Ashworth.

Sarah is related to Jon Foreman of the band Switchfoot; he is her brother-in-law, having married her sister Emily. Foreman featured Masen on several tracks on his Summer EP (2008).
