Tasha Layton Biography

Tasha Layton, born on October 27, 1982 (age 41), is an American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, and author.

Originally from Pauline, South Carolina, Layton grew up Southern Baptist and later converted to Assemblies of God. During her teenage years, she faced struggles with her faith after her church experienced a split. She changed her college major from music to religion and explored various religions before returning to Christianity through a small church she attended about an hour away. After graduating from college, she moved to California and enrolled at The King's Seminary in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, where she earned a Master of Divinity degree. During this period, Layton worked as a worship leader for four years and began her career as a session vocalist.

In 2010, she auditioned for season 9 of American Idol, making it to the third round of Hollywood week before being sent home. Shortly after, she auditioned for and secured a background singer position with Katy Perry, spending the next four years doing session recordings and touring. Layton also contributed to songs used at Disneyland, Cirque du Soleil, and Nickelodeon. She later moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a solo music career and, in 2013, became an instructor at Trevecca Nazarene University.

Layton signed with BEC Recordings and released her first single and lyric video, "I Belong to You," on September 5, 2018. In October, she followed up with the single "Love Lifting Me," which reached the top 25 on both the Billboard Christian Airplay and Christian AC Airplay charts.

In July 2019, she released her debut EP, "Love Running Wild", and saw her first CCM radio hit with "Love Lifting Me." However, it was her second radio single, "Into the Sea (It's Gonna Be OK)," released in 2020, that marked her breakthrough, elevating her into the Billboard Top 5 Female Christian Artists in 2020. The song reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart.

In April 2021, her single "Look What You've Done" became her first top ten single on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart and her first number one Christian Airplay single. She was introduced on Good Morning America as "one of the fastest rising stars in Christian music."

In May 2022, Layton released her debut album "How Far". The title track became her first top five single on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart and her second number one Christian Airplay single.

On February 16, 2024, Layton released the album "Never", featuring seven different versions of her 2023 hit single "Never." Her latest single, "Worship Through It," featuring Chris Brown of Elevation Worship, was released on April 19, 2024. Read more on Last.fm.
