This is the Book of Ephesians.

Ephesians is a letter from the apostle Paul about God's plan to unite all things in Jesus Christ. Paul had spent significant time in Ephesus, and later wrote this letter while imprisoned by the Romans. Unlike some of Paul's letters, Ephesians is not focused on one urgent church crisis. Instead, it gives a wide and beautiful vision of what God has done through Jesus and how His people should live in response.

The central theme of Ephesians is church unity in Christ. Through Jesus, God is creating one new family from people who were once divided, especially Jews and Gentiles. This unity is not based on shared background, culture, or religious status, but on God's grace and the work of the Holy Spirit.

Paul begins by praising God for the blessings He has given His people in Christ. Before the world began, God planned to create a people who would be adopted as His children through Jesus, forgiven, given the Holy Spirit, and brought together under Christ. Paul wants believers to personally understand the hope, power, and inheritance they have received.

Paul then explains that salvation is a gift of grace. People were once spiritually dead, trapped in sin, selfishness, and the influence of spiritual evil. But God, rich in mercy, made them alive with Christ. They are saved by grace through faith, not by their own works, so no one can boast. Yet this grace also gives them a new purpose: they are created in Christ for a life of good works.

This grace also creates a new community. Gentiles, who were once outside Israel and its special relationship with God, have now been brought near through Jesus. By His death, Jesus has removed the barrier that divided Jews and Gentiles and created one new humanity. Together, they become a living temple, a people where God's Spirit lives.

Paul says this united family reveals God's wisdom to the world. The church is not just a religious organization. It is a living sign of God's plan to heal division and bring creation back together under Christ. Paul prays that believers would be strengthened by the Spirit and rooted in the love of Jesus, a love greater than they can fully comprehend.

In the second half of the letter, Paul turns from what God has done to how God's people should live. Because they have been made one in Christ, believers must live with humility, patience, forgiveness, and love. Unity does not mean everyone is the same. Each person has gifts to serve others and build up the church.

Paul calls believers to take off the old life and put on the new life shaped by Jesus. Instead of lying, anger, stealing, corrupt speech, revenge, and selfish desire, God's people are called to truth, peace, generosity, encouragement, forgiveness, and self-control. Christian behavior is not about earning God's love. It is about living as people who have already received His grace.

Paul also applies this new life to everyday relationships, including marriage, parenting, work, and household responsibilities. In every relationship, followers of Jesus are called to reject selfish power and practice humility, love, respect, and service.

Ephesians closes by reminding believers that their struggle is not ultimately against people, but against spiritual evil. Paul calls them to stand firm in God's strength, using truth, righteousness, the good news of peace, faith, salvation, God's word, prayer, and their relationships with one another as armor for faithful life in Christ.
