This is the Book of Ecclesiastes.

The Book of Ecclesiastes is part of the Bible's wisdom literature. Rather than offering simple answers, it wrestles honestly with one of life's biggest questions: Where can true meaning and lasting satisfaction be found?

The central theme of Ecclesiastes is that life apart from God is ultimately empty and temporary. The book follows the reflections of a wise teacher who examines nearly every avenue people pursue in search of fulfillment. Throughout his search, he compares life to a vapor or mist. It appears for a moment and then vanishes, showing that life is fleeting, difficult to grasp, and often beyond our understanding.

He explores wealth, work, knowledge, pleasure, achievement, and ambition, repeatedly showing that none of them can provide lasting purpose when treated as life's ultimate goal.

Yet Ecclesiastes does not encourage despair. Instead, it teaches that when we accept life's limits and let go of the illusion that we can control everything, we are free to receive life's ordinary blessings with gratitude as God's gifts. Even when many questions remain unanswered, we can enjoy the good things He has given us.

The book concludes by bringing its message into focus: "Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of mankind." Lasting meaning is found not in trying to master life, but in trusting the One who rules over it and who will one day make all things right.

Ecclesiastes reminds us that every earthly pursuit eventually comes to an end, but our relationship with God gives life its true purpose. It invites us to live humbly, enjoy God's daily gifts, place our hope in His coming justice, and trust Him with life's unanswered questions.
