This is Ezekiel, Part 1.

Ezekiel was a priest living among the Jewish exiles in Babylon when God called him to become a prophet. Through dramatic visions, symbolic actions, and powerful messages, God revealed why Jerusalem would soon fall and why His people desperately needed spiritual renewal.

The central theme of the first half of Ezekiel is that God's holiness cannot coexist with persistent sin. Although His people had broken their covenant through idolatry, injustice, and rebellion, God's purpose was not simply to punish them, but ultimately to restore them.

The book opens with Ezekiel's astonishing vision of God's glory riding on a heavenly throne above mysterious living creatures and wheels within wheels. This vision reveals that God's presence is not confined to Jerusalem or the temple. Even in exile, He remains the sovereign King over all creation.

Throughout these chapters, Ezekiel acts out many of God's messages through vivid symbolic signs, including building a model of Jerusalem under siege to illustrate the coming judgment. As Jerusalem's destruction draws near, Ezekiel announces that God's glory will depart from the temple because of the people's persistent rebellion. Yet God does not abandon His people. He leaves the temple and goes with them into exile, showing that His covenant presence is not limited to one place.

Even before judgment is complete, God offers hope. He promises to gather His people again, remove their hearts of stone, give them hearts of flesh, and put His Spirit within them so they can walk in His ways.

Ezekiel reminds us that God is both perfectly holy and deeply committed to restoring His people. He calls us to wholehearted repentance, promising to transform us from the inside out through His Spirit.
