Aaron Shust Biography

Who is Aaron Shust?

Aaron Shust (born October 31, 1975) is an American contemporary Christian singer-songwriter best known for the Dove Award-winning hit "My Savior My God." Born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Shust developed a love for both music and Scripture at an early age. He studied music theory at Toccoa Falls College in Georgia, where he was influenced by classical composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as modern artists including U2 and Bob Marley. While attending college, he began leading worship and performing at churches and coffeehouses.

After serving as a worship leader at Perimeter Church in Duluth, Georgia, Shust independently recorded his debut album, Anything Worth Saying (2005). Producer Dan Hannon introduced the project to Brash Music, which quickly signed him. The album became a major success in Christian music thanks to the hit single "My Savior My God," one of the biggest Christian radio songs of 2006. The song topped multiple Christian radio charts, earned Song of the Year at the 2007 GMA Dove Awards, and helped Shust win New Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. Anything Worth Saying also reached No. 1 on Billboard's Christian Albums chart.

Shust followed with Whispered and Shouted (2007), featuring the radio favorite "Give Me Words to Speak," before releasing Take Over (2009), which included the hit single "To God Alone." In 2011 he signed with Centricity Music and released This Is What We Believe, highlighted by the No. 1 Christian hit "My Hope Is in You." During a season when one of his sons was diagnosed with Down syndrome and two of his children battled chronic illnesses, the song became a message of perseverance and trust in God for both Shust and countless listeners. The album was followed by Morning Rises (2013), the orchestral Christmas album Unto Us (2014), recorded with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, Doxology (2015), and the live worship album Love Made a Way (2017).

After becoming an independent artist, Shust released Nothing to Fear (2019) before turning his attention to projects rooted deeply in Scripture and the Jewish heritage of the Christian faith. Through friendships with Messianic Jewish believers in both Nashville and Israel, he developed a deeper appreciation for the Hebrew Scriptures and the cultural background of Jesus' ministry. These influences are reflected in Heaven + Earth: The Psalms Project, which incorporates Middle Eastern musical styles, passages sung in Hebrew, and collaborations with Israeli musicians. He has continued releasing new music leading toward his upcoming album, The Kingdom, centered on the earthly ministry of Jesus.

In addition to recording and touring, Shust and his wife Sarah host monthly Shust Home Devos, online gatherings featuring Bible study, Scripture reading, and worship. Together they also help lead educational tours to Israel through their Land of Zion ministry (landofzion.org). Aaron and Sarah live in Nashville with their three sons, where he continues to encourage believers through biblically grounded music and teaching.
