Building 429 Biography


Building 429, formed in 1999 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is a Christian rock band recognized for their impactful music and award-winning achievements. The name "Building 429" is derived from Ephesians 4:29 – NIV: "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

The band consists of Jason Roy (lead vocals, guitar), Michael Anderson (drums), Jesse Garcia (guitar, keys), and Aaron Branch (bass). Building 429’s music focuses on themes of hope and redemption, and they have toured extensively, sharing their music with audiences around the world.

Building 429 released their debut album, "Building 429," in 2000, followed by "Preflight" in 2002. Their third album, "The Space In Between Us," came out in 2004, and "Rise" followed in 2006. In 2008, they released "Glory Defined" and "Iris To Iris." Another self-titled album, "Building 429," was released later that year. They continued with "Listen to the Sound" in 2011. Their eighth studio album, "We Won't Be Shaken," was released in 2013 and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Christian Albums chart. Subsequent albums include "Unashamed" in 2015 and "Live the Journey" in 2018.

The band has produced several notable singles, including "Glory Defined" (2004), "Fearless" (2013), "Where I Belong" (2011), and "We Won't Be Shaken" (2013). "Where I Belong" spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Christian Songs chart and was named the 2013 Billboard Magazine Christian Song of the Year.

In 2005, their song “Glory Defined” was named BMI’s Christian Song of the Year. The band was also named the Gospel Music Association’s 2005 New Artist of the Year and was nominated for Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Building 429 has received various awards and nominations, including a Dove Award for New Artist of the Year in 2005 and several Billboard Music Awards. Additionally, their album "We Won't Be Shaken" was nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.

Building 429 has toured with notable artists such as TobyMac, Family Force 5, Casting Crowns, and Thousand Foot Krutch.
