CircleSlide Biography

Who is CircleSlide?

Circleslide is an American alternative indie rock band formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 1999, featuring guitar-driven Christian rock and ministry-focused music. The lineup consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Gabe Martinez, bass guitarist Eric Vickers, lead guitarist Jonathan DeAnda, and drummer Lee Yoder. Former members include bass guitarist and background vocalist Tim Martinez, lead guitarist Aaron Gillies, drummer Mark Alvis, and bassist Tim Sedlock.

Circleslide released the EP "Connectology" with Centricity Music in 2004, followed by their debut studio album "Uncommon Days" in 2006. Their second studio album, "Echoes of the Light", was released on October 5, 2010 through Save the City Records and reflected the band's blend of alternative rock energy, melodic songwriting, and worship-influenced themes.

The group has spent much of its career touring while remaining committed to sharing their Christian faith. Circleslide has performed alongside artists such as Newsboys, TobyMac, MercyMe, Casting Crowns, Salvador, Jaci Velasquez, and Downhere. The band has played venues ranging from clubs and colleges to churches, youth camps, and outreach events. Their early roots were connected to Youth With A Mission. Frontman Gabe Martinez has described the band's mission as making music that would inspire people, touch hearts, and lead them to Christ.

The band's story includes overcoming significant challenges, including the destruction of their home and virtually all of their musical instruments, gear, PA system, and trailer during the historic 2010 Nashville flood. A friend waded through floodwater to save some vintage guitars, but the band otherwise had to rebuild entirely from scratch. Community organizations such as MusiCares and Porter's Call in Nashville helped replace their gear, strengthening their commitment to continuing their calling through music.

Musically, Circleslide delivers modern rock shaped by alternative indie influences and worship dynamics. Their sound has been compared to anthemic alternative groups such as Arcade Fire and The Flaming Lips, while also drawing comparisons to Kings of Leon and the envelope-pushing Christian rock of The Choir, whose song "Circle Slide" inspired the band's name.

The album "Echoes of the Light" explored themes of vulnerability, endurance, and spiritual assurance. Songs such as "The Litany", "Open Door", "Eye of the Hurricane", "Love Amazing", "You Are Everything", and "Nothing Compares To You" combined energetic rock instrumentation with reflective Christian themes. The project was intentionally sequenced to function as a continuous listening experience rather than a collection of singles, with 12 tracks arranged to take listeners through a range of musical and spiritual emotions.

While studio releases have been limited since 2010, musical activity and faith-based performances have continued to be associated with Circleslide. Their work focuses on offering encouragement and hope to listeners facing hardship, uncertainty, or grief.

Circleslide remains recognized within the Christian alternative indie rock space for combining dynamic guitar-based arrangements with Christ-centered songwriting and a clear Gospel message.
