Collington Biography
Collington is an indie rock, Christian rock, and worship band fronted by American singer-songwriter James Collington. The style of Collington ranges from more acoustic tracks to full-out rock production, including alt rock, indie rock, Christian rock, and worship. The band has released one full-length album titled "We Swim In Seas That Never Rest" (2016), an EP called "In Between" (2018), and various singles in 2020 and 2022.
James Collington began writing music in 2009 and produced his first demos in 2010, characterized by an overall acoustic sound. He soon started performing live shows and continued producing his own music. In the summer of 2015, Collington had the opportunity to open for Aaron Gillespie (known for his work with Underoath and Paramore). Impressed by Collington's talent, Gillespie invited him to record together. The result was Collington's debut album, "We Swim In Seas That Never Rest," which premiered on Relevant magazine and was officially released on January 1, 2016. Over the years, Collington has shared the stage with popular artists such as Switchfoot, Johnnyswim, and Skillet.
For his next project, the EP "In Between," Collington collaborated with producer Eric Owyoung (known for his work with Switchfoot, Jon Foreman, and Hillsong United). The EP received attention both in the US and the UK and was featured on several official Spotify playlists. The lead single, "Here We Go," also made it onto an official Spotify playlist. Another track from the EP, "Mountain," was recorded with Dan Knittel at Anthemic Recordings.
In 2020, Collington self-produced a series of singles while staying at an Airbnb in Maine. One of these singles, "Against the Wall," gained recognition when it became Collington's first song featured on major US radio after winning the Battle of The Buzz at RadioU (WUFM). Another single from that year, "Providence," featured Collington's wife, Megan. In 2022, Collington worked with Jake Rye (known for his work with Sanctus Real) to produce additional singles. RadioU (WUFM) even featured Collington as their first artist to release a new single in 2023.
Collington's music has been recognized in the Christian music scene. In 2020, they were nominated for The We Love Christian Music Awards' Next Big Thing category and emerged as the winner. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Collington performed live at the awards ceremony in Memphis, Tennessee, where they accepted their award on February 24, 2021.
