John Allan Biography
Who is John Allan?
John Allan is a Christian singer/songwriter and worship leader who creates faith-filled indie rock that invites listeners to encounter God through sound and story.
Raised in Southern California, Allan grew up surrounded by a mix of '80s pop and his mother's favorite Keith Green records. His parents' deep faith and love for the local church shaped both his heart and his songwriting. He still vividly remembers his first piano lesson, when his heart beat faster with every note. "I was just a kid, but I remember God's presence meeting me there," Allan recalls. "From there, I think it's always been about chasing God in music and trying to find His heart in it."
As he learned more instruments and began writing songs as a teenager, he found inspiration in artists such as The Killers, The National, Gang of Youths, Bon Iver, and Novo Amor. His sound reflects that range, mixing alternative and pop influences with lyrics that express awe for God and a passion for the Church. "I've always been so fascinated by God and who He is," Allan says. "The fact that I can even desire to create art, well, that's just God planting that desire for His glory."
After releasing two EPs in 2022, Allan signed with Centricity Music, stepping into a new season of creativity and faith. His first single with the label, "Living God," co-written with Benji Cowart and Kyle Williams, captures his style perfectly: vibrant synth layers, soaring melodies, and lyrics that stir belief. "My prayer is that people put on 'Living God' and are not afraid to believe again," he shares. "Maybe even someone who's jaded or mad at the church, I pray they find that wonder again and know there is a God who created imagination and planted it in the souls of His children."
Allan also appears on Centricity Worship's "Keep On Finding More," a song he co-wrote with Andy Cherry and Blake Wiggins. Its message, drawn from Ephesians 3:20, reminds listeners that "it never runs out with God. There is always something happening when He's steering. When He's at the center of it, there's no ceiling." His single "Heaven Secrets," released August 22, 2025, and written with Ricky Jackson and Scottie Mills, is a bold encouragement for anyone serving in ministry. The progressive, alt-pop track serves as "an outcry to a tired heart," motivating listeners to keep running the race of faith with endurance. "I think if you're trying to sprint through ministry, you're going to get burned out and jaded," Allan explains. "God's heart for us is not to be burned out or jaded toward His bride." These singles, along with others, anchor his EP Resurrection Power, released October 24, 2025, a powerful collection that showcases his alt-pop sound and heart for reviving faith.
Still living in Southern California, Allan leads worship at his local church while writing songs that reflect his faith and creative curiosity. "The goal is to be an old man in the house of God someday," he says. "I don't want to lose my chase of God just because I put another year on my life."
For Allan, music is simply a tool for pointing people to the Creator. "God is the fine artist," he says. "He is the giver of gifts, but He really is the gift. Music is just the fork and the knife. I get to use it to help people taste and see how good He is."
