Pivitplex Biography
Originally formed in Montana in 1998 under the name Porchlight, Pivitplex was a five-piece alternative Christian rock band based in Nashville, Tennessee. Their upbeat, melodic, guitar-driven rock and roll, which mixed electronic sounds and slightly distorted guitar, captivated audiences nationwide. Lead singer and songwriter Scott Brownson described their unique sound as "lyrics and music influencing each other." He incorporated masterful harmonies and lyrically explored the joys and pains of life, always with a perspective rooted in the hope of eternity.
"Nobody is sure who to compare us to," Brownson admitted. "I believe that the songs just happen." This spontaneity was evident in their music, which defied easy categorization. It was a blend of melodic American rock with a touch of British pop, yet it remained undeniably fresh and original.
Pivitplex's debut album, "Under Museum Quality Glass" (2001/2003), introduced them to a wide audience with the radio hit "You Know." Touring extensively, they shared the stage with bands like Switchfoot and Audio Adrenaline, building a strong fan base.
Their 2006 album, "The King in a Rookery," marked a significant leap forward in both songwriting and sonic quality. It was a collection of melodic, guitar-driven songs with thought-provoking lyrics. "Constant touring and 3 years of trials and joys fueled the content of the new songs," Brownson explained. "Being away from family, the sudden death of my brother-in-law, my daughter’s recovery from a coma. I have had some joyous highs and sad lows. I had to allow the songs that were flowing out of me to just be."
Collaborating with GRAMMY-winning producer Jason Burkum, Pivitplex crafted a sound that combined vintage rock elements with modern melodic harmonies. Guitarist Joby Rudolph noted that they wanted to "let the notes and the tone of the instruments come through, letting the melody have the impact instead of big distorted guitars. In a way it was like putting together this giant puzzle; from tracking drums in a backstreet studio to backing vocals in the bedroom-but the pieces fitted perfectly." The result was a cohesive album that showcased the band's unique musical style. Read more on Last.fm.
