Selah Biography
Formed in 1997, Selah is a Christian music group with a long and successful career. The original trio consisted of Nicol Sponberg (originally Smith), Allan Hall, and Todd Smith. Their debut album, "Be Still My Soul," released in 1999, was a critical and commercial success, earning them a Dove Award. Selah quickly established a reputation for their ability to reinterpret classic and contemporary Christian songs, breathing new life into familiar melodies.
The early 2000s saw Selah continue to release well-received albums, featuring a blend of original compositions and popular covers like "You Raise Me Up" and "Bless the Broken Road." Their music gained further exposure through appearances on prominent Christian television programs like The 700 Club, The Hour of Power, and TBN.
In 2004, Nicol Sponberg departed from the group to pursue a solo career. She released her debut album, "Resurrection," that same year. The album featured a crossover hit, "Crazy In Love," while Sponberg maintained a presence on Christian radio with songs like "Safe."
Following Sponberg's departure, Amy Perry joined Selah in 2004. The group has continued to be active, releasing new music throughout the years. In 2022, they commemorated their 25th anniversary with a Christmas album, "At This Table," and a hymns project, "Greatest Hymns, Vol. 3." Their next project, "Higher Name," scheduled for release on November 1, 2024, marks a significant shift as it features all original songs written, co-written, or spoken word by the group members themselves.
