Telecast Biography
Telecast is a Christian worship band renowned for their unique blend of alternative rock/pop influences and heartfelt worship music. The band was founded in Spokane, Washington, by vocalist and songwriter Josh White, guitarist Brian Ortize, bassist Marquis Ashley, and drummer Nick Tibbetts. Their sound, which blends Brit-pop and atmospheric rock with Christ-centered lyrics, has appealed to a broad audience, from churchgoers to seekers of meaningful music.
Before forming Telecast, Josh White was active in Seattle’s post-grunge music scene, fronting bands like Man Ray and Medicate. However, his path shifted after experiencing a renewed Christian faith, which led him to leave the secular music industry and move to Spokane to lead worship at Calvary Church. There, he met Ortize, and together they began writing music. Telecast's mission is to create worship music that both expresses Christian beliefs and is accessible to a broader audience. As White explained, “Telecast’s purpose was to put Jesus in the centrality of the lyrics,” ensuring that their music clearly reflects their faith.
Telecast released its debut album, "The Beauty of Simplicity", on BEC Records in 2003, marking the beginning of their unique contribution to the Christian music scene. The album's blend of alternative rock influences and worshipful lyrics set the tone for the band's future work.
Their 2005 album, "Eternity Is Now", focuses on the idea of living in the constant presence of God. Songs like "Saturate" call for breaking free from apathy in one's Christian walk, encouraging a deeper commitment to faith. With Brit-pop influences and thoughtful, scripture-based lyrics, the album was able to reach both believers and those outside traditional church circles.
In 2008, Telecast released "Quiet Revolution", a collaborative project with pastors John Mark Comer and Brook Mosser. The album continued to reflect the band’s dedication to crafting worship music that is grounded in scripture, with a focus on the centrality of Christ.
