Winona Avenue Biography
Winona Avenue is an Indianapolis-based pop-rock band founded by brothers Daniel Deputy (vocals, guitar) and David Deputy (drums). Formed in early 2019, the band combines elements of pop-punk, synth-pop, and alternative rock, drawing influence from both Christian and mainstream artists such as Relient K, Switchfoot, Owl City, Skillet, and Stellar Kart.
The band's name, Winona Avenue, is a personal connection to the brothers' childhood home on Winona Drive. As Daniel explains, "We decided upon the name Winona Avenue because we grew up on a road called Winona Drive. The name Winona Drive was already taken by a music production studio, so we decided to go by the name of Winona Avenue instead." David adds a deeper layer of meaning, explaining, "Winona Avenue can be used as a metaphor for a beginning. We all follow a route throughout our lives. Ultimately, it's the decisions we make, the way we deal with circumstances, and who we choose to follow that will determine where we will go."
The band released their self-titled debut album in 2019, a project that had been years in the making. Each song on the album was carefully crafted with the purpose of conveying the band’s Christian faith and offering hope and encouragement to listeners. Tracks like "Masterpiece" highlight the belief that every individual is uniquely created by God, while "December Night" blends various musical elements to deliver a message of hope and joy that can be found in Christ.
Winona Avenue's mission extends beyond music. The brothers view their band as a ministry, using their platform to point people to Jesus. Their goal is to create music that not only entertains but also uplifts and encourages, helping listeners to feel God’s love and presence in their lives. They measure their success by the impact their music has on others, particularly in guiding them through life’s challenges with a sense of hope and faith. Read more on Last.fm.
