This is the Book of 2 Peter.

Second Peter is written as Peter's farewell message to followers of Jesus who were being threatened by false teachers inside the church. Peter knows his death may be near, so he writes to help these believers remember the truth, keep growing in Christlike character, and resist teachers who were leading people away from Jesus.

The central theme of 2 Peter is staying faithful to the truth. Peter urges believers to grow in the character of Jesus, hold firmly to the message handed down by the apostles, reject destructive teaching, and live in hope as they wait for the day when God makes all things new.

Peter begins by reminding believers that God has given them everything they need for life and godliness through knowing Jesus. Following Jesus is not only about receiving forgiveness. It is a new way of life. Because God has rescued His people from the corruption of the world, they are called to keep growing in goodness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, affection for one another, and love.

Peter then explains why his message can be trusted. He wants believers to remember his teaching after he is gone. The message about Jesus was not built on myths or religious imagination. Peter himself saw Jesus' glory on the mountain, when Jesus was revealed as God's beloved Son. Peter also points to Scripture, reminding believers that God's promises are not human invention. God has spoken, and His message can be trusted.

Peter then gives a strong warning about these teachers. They claimed freedom, but their lives were marked by greed, arrogance, and destructive desire. They used people for their own gain and made sin sound harmless. Peter says this is not real freedom. People are truly enslaved when they are ruled by the very desires that are destroying them.

To show that God takes evil seriously, Peter points to earlier stories of judgment and rescue. God judged rebellion in the past, including the violent world of Noah's day and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, but He also rescued the faithful. The point is clear: God knows how to rescue His people and hold evil accountable.

In the final chapter, Peter addresses people who mocked the promise of Jesus' return. They argued that since life seemed to continue as usual, God would never intervene. Peter responds that God's patience should not be mistaken for absence. The Lord is not slow or careless. He is patient, giving people time to turn back to Him.

But the day of the Lord will come. Peter says God's justice will expose the world and its works. Evil will not be ignored forever. God will confront and remove what ruins His creation, and His people are waiting for new heavens and a new earth, where everything is made right.

That future hope should change how believers live now. They are called to lives of holiness, peace, patience, and faithfulness. Peter also warns them not to twist Scripture or misuse Paul's letters to excuse a corrupt way of life. The apostles are united in their message: God's grace does not free people to do whatever they want. It frees them to become the kind of people God created them to be.

Second Peter closes by warning believers not to be carried away by the errors of false teachers. Instead, they are to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Peter's final word is not fear, but a call to stay rooted in Jesus, keep growing in love and character, and trust that God's promised future will come.
