This is Exodus Part 1, covering Exodus chapters 1 through 18.

Genesis ended with the descendants of Abraham living safely in Egypt under Joseph's care. As Exodus begins, a new Pharaoh rises to power and enslaves the Israelites, turning God's growing people into an oppressed nation.

The central theme of this section is God's deliverance. When His people cry out in their suffering, God acts to rescue them and remain faithful to His covenant promises.

In the midst of Israel's oppression, Moses is born and miraculously preserved. After fleeing Egypt as a young man, he encounters God at the burning bush. There, God reveals His name as "I AM," promises to be with Moses, and calls him to return to Egypt and lead His people to freedom.

Moses and his brother Aaron repeatedly confront Pharaoh with God's command: "Let my people go." Pharaoh stubbornly hardens his heart, refusing to obey despite the growing devastation around him. Through a series of powerful plagues, God demonstrates that He alone is Lord, exposing the powerlessness of Egypt's gods.

The climax comes with the Passover. Israel is instructed to sacrifice a lamb and mark their doorposts with its blood. That night, God's judgment passes through Egypt, but every household marked by faith is spared. The Passover becomes Israel's lasting reminder that God rescues His people through His gracious provision.

Soon after, Pharaoh changes his mind and pursues the Israelites to the Red Sea. Trapped between the sea and the Egyptian army, the people witness one of Scripture's greatest miracles as God parts the waters and leads them safely through. Israel responds with joyful praise, celebrating the Lord's victory over their enemies.

The journey then moves into the wilderness, where God provides water, manna, and protection from their enemies. He proves Himself to be not only their Deliverer but also their faithful Provider.

Exodus 1 through 18 reveals a God who hears the cries of His people and acts to save them. Through Moses, the Passover, and the crossing of the Red Sea, God begins shaping Israel into a nation that belongs to Him.

Yet freedom from slavery is only the beginning. As God's people travel toward Mount Sinai, an important question remains: will they learn to trust the God who rescued them?
