This is Isaiah, Part 1.

The Book of Isaiah is the first of the Major Prophets. Isaiah ministered during a time of political turmoil and spiritual decline, calling the people of Judah to turn back to God while warning that their persistent rebellion would bring judgment.

The central theme of Isaiah's first thirty-nine chapters is that the Holy God calls His people to trust Him alone. Although Judah placed its confidence in political alliances, military strength, and idols, Isaiah repeatedly urges the nation to place its hope in the Lord instead.

Early in the book, Isaiah receives a dramatic vision of God's holiness as heavenly beings cry, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty." Confronted by God's glory, Isaiah recognizes his own sinfulness before receiving God's cleansing and being sent to proclaim His message.

Throughout these chapters, Isaiah warns both Judah and the surrounding nations that pride, injustice, and unfaithfulness will lead to judgment. Yet woven throughout these warnings are remarkable promises of hope. Even after God's judgment leaves David's royal line like a felled tree, Isaiah promises that a new shoot will emerge from the remaining stump. This promised King, called Immanuel, meaning "God with us," will establish God's kingdom with justice and peace. Isaiah also foresees a day when people from every nation will stream to God's mountain, swords will be beaten into plowshares, and peace will fill the earth.

Isaiah reminds us that God's holiness demands justice, yet His mercy continues to offer hope to those who trust Him. Even in the midst of judgment, God is preparing a renewed people, and His purposes will ultimately be fulfilled through His coming King.
