Who is Alabaster Box?
Alabaster Box is an Australian Christian pop-rock band known for its melodic sound, worshipful lyrics, and international ministry. Formed in 1997 on the Gold Coast, Queensland, by husband-and-wife duo Naarah and Brett Seagrott, the band built a strong following throughout Australia before relocating to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2006 to expand its international ministry.
The band began as a youth ministry at Christian Community Church on Australia's Gold Coast, with original members Naarah Seagrott (vocals), Brett Seagrott (guitar), Ben Woodward (drums), and Sam Hatch (acoustic guitar). Keyboardist Joshua Brown joined in 1999, followed shortly afterward by bassist Matt Smallbone after the band won a Brisbane radio station talent search. Alabaster Box's self-titled debut album, released in 1998, earned three Sunnie Awards, including Best Pop Album and Best Gospel Album, launching a successful touring career across Australia and New Zealand.
The band's sophomore album, Main Attraction (2001), was produced by Vince Emmett at Kentucky's Melody Hill Farm Studios. It was followed by Love On The Radio (2004), Live at Ripley Road (2006), We Will Not Be Silent (2008), and Eyes Be Opened (2014). Over the years, Alabaster Box scored seven No. 1 songs on the Rock Across Australia (TRAA) Charts, including "Show Me," "Main Attraction," "There's Hope," and "Love on the Radio."
Since moving to the United States, Alabaster Box has continued to minister through concerts, church events, schools, festivals, and outreach events across Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and beyond. The band has shared stages with artists including Newsboys and Michael W. Smith while remaining committed to creating music that encourages faith, hope, and perseverance through Jesus Christ. Led by Naarah and Brett Seagrott, Alabaster Box continues to release music and share its message of hope through worship and ministry around the world.
