Ten Shekel Shirt Biography
Who is Ten Shekel Shirt?
Ten Shekel Shirt is a Christian rock band formed in the early 2000s by singer/songwriter Lamont Hiebert, drummer Austin Morrison, and bassist Tommy Lee. The band's name comes from the sermon entitled Ten Shekels and a Shirt by Paris Reidhead, a message that challenges believers not to serve God for personal benefit but simply because He is worthy.
In 2001, Ten Shekel Shirt signed with Vertical Music and released their debut album Much, which included the number one Christian radio hit Ocean as well as the well-known song Meet With Me. The album was nominated for the 2002 Dove Award for Praise and Worship Album of the Year. Their second album Risk, produced by Brent Milligan, followed in 2003 on M2.0 Records. After a brief pause, the band returned in 2008 with Jubilee, released through Rounder Records and later reissued by Hiebert's independent label, Art and Action Media.
Lamont Hiebert, originally from the small community of Grand Forks in rural British Columbia, has long used his music to highlight justice and compassion. He is the co-founder of Love146, an international organization working to end child sex trafficking and exploitation through prevention programs and survivor care. His commitment to that mission influences many of the songs released under the Ten Shekel Shirt name, often focusing on hope, healing, and restoration.
Over the years, a number of musicians have collaborated with Hiebert under the Ten Shekel Shirt banner, including Jonny Rodgers, Colin Meyer, Jake Carey, Tim Sway, and others. Originally based in New Haven, Connecticut, Hiebert now lives in Miami, Florida, where he continues to write and perform music under the name Lamont Charles. He remains an active advocate for Love146. Ten Shekel Shirt has appeared in a wide range of settings including churches, colleges, advocacy events, and mainstream venues, sharing music rooted in worship and a passion for justice.
Their discography includes Much (2001), Risk (2003), and Jubilee (2008).
