This is the Book of Daniel.

Daniel tells the story of faithful Jews living in exile under foreign empires. Through inspiring accounts of courage and remarkable prophetic visions, the book reveals that although earthly kingdoms rise and fall, God remains the true King over history.

The central theme of Daniel is that God's kingdom will ultimately overcome every human kingdom. Even when His people live under hostile governments, they are called to remain faithful, trusting that God is directing history toward His purposes.

The first half of the book follows Daniel and his friends as they faithfully serve in the courts of Babylon and, later, Persia. Refusing to compromise their loyalty to God, they remain faithful despite intense pressure. Daniel interprets King Nebuchadnezzar's dream of a great statue representing a succession of earthly kingdoms. A stone sent by God shatters the statue and grows into a mountain, revealing that God's kingdom will one day replace every human empire. God also delivers Daniel's friends from the fiery furnace and later rescues Daniel from the lions' den, demonstrating His power to save those who trust Him.

The second half of the book records Daniel's symbolic visions of kingdoms rising and falling like powerful beasts. Daniel shows how human kingdoms become beast-like when rulers glorify their own power instead of acknowledging God as their true King. Above them all, Daniel sees God's eternal throne and "one like a son of man," representing both God's faithful people and their promised King. Jesus later uses this title for Himself, identifying Himself as the King who receives an everlasting kingdom that will never be destroyed.

Though evil may appear to triumph for a season, Daniel sees God's final judgment, when the dead will be raised. The faithful will receive everlasting life, while those who reject God will face His judgment.

Daniel reminds us that throughout history, human kingdoms become beast-like when they reject God's rule. But the book also offers a lasting promise: God will confront evil, establish His eternal kingdom, and call His people to remain faithful with courage, hope, and perseverance.
