This is John Part 2, covering chapters 13 through 21.

The second half of John focuses on Jesus' final night with His disciples, His death, His resurrection, and His renewed call to follow Him. After showing His identity through signs and teaching, Jesus now brings the full meaning of His glory into focus through sacrificial love.

The central theme of this section is that Jesus is glorified through His death and resurrection. By laying down His life and rising again, He displays the love of the Father, defeats sin and death, and gives eternal life to all who believe.

At the final meal with His disciples, Jesus kneels to wash their feet, taking the role of a servant. This act points to the meaning of His entire mission: the Son of God shows God's heart by giving Himself in love. Jesus then gives His followers a new command, to love one another as He has loved them.

Jesus prepares His disciples for His departure by promising the Holy Spirit. Though He is going away, He will not abandon them. The Spirit will bring Jesus' presence to His people, draw them into the love shared by the Father and the Son, and empower them to continue His mission in the world.

Jesus describes Himself as the true vine and His followers as branches who must remain in Him. Their lives are to be rooted in His love and marked by obedience, fruitfulness, and faithful witness. He also warns that they will face opposition, but tells them to take heart because He has overcome the world.

When Jesus is arrested, John shows that He is not a helpless victim. He willingly gives Himself up, knowing that the cross is the place where God's love and victory will be displayed. Before Pilate, Jesus declares that His Kingdom is not from this world. He is truly King, but His Kingdom is defined not by worldly power, but by truth, love, and self-giving sacrifice.

At the cross, Jesus is lifted up as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. What looks like defeat is actually the moment when Jesus completes the work the Father gave Him to do. He gives His life in love and declares, "It is finished."

On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene discovers the empty tomb and meets the risen Jesus. The resurrection is the climax to which all of Jesus' signs pointed, confirming that Jesus is the Son of God, the source of life, and the One whose love has conquered death.

Jesus then appears to His disciples, gives them peace, breathes on them to receive the Holy Spirit, and sends them out. Thomas, who first doubts, responds with one of the clearest confessions in the Gospel: "My Lord and my God." John explains that these things were written so that readers may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and have life in His name.

The Gospel closes with Jesus meeting His disciples by the sea, restoring Peter, and calling him to feed His sheep.
